Eye Examinations

Optometrists recommend getting a comprehensive eye examination. Nothing is more important than an annual eye exam. Regular check-ups help you maintain the best vision and can detect a number of eye ailments before they turn into something more serious, such as cataracts or retinal problems to name a few.

Children

We recommend children start having their vision examined by an optometrist at about 4-5 years of age. During the appointment, inform the doctor if any of the following can be applied to your child:
  • Excessive blinking
  • Frequent eye rubbing
  • Failure to maintain eye contact
  • Failed a vision screening at school or by a pediatrician
  • Family history of strabismus, amblyopia, or eye diseases

Visual Field Test

A test to measure how much vision and/or vision loss you have. This is a good way to monitor the progression of vision loss, to determine if it is affecting your daily tasks. This test can help doctors determine if there are eye diseases, brain disorders and/or glaucoma effecting your quality of vision in advance. People with the following condition should ask their eye doctor if a visual field test is required:
  • Glaucoma
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Pituitary gland disorder
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Stroke
